9900 SL WIDE-RIDE

Introducing the all *NEW* 9900SL WIDE RIDE Tournament Water Ski

The 9900SL "WIDE RIDE"  from GOODE has and extra wide forebody to help provide support at the buoy while running short-line. The 9900SL "WIDE RIDE" is the result of a two year R & D project. US National Champion, Nick Parsons (pictured to the right), has risen to #3 on the Elite World Standing List using the "WIDE RIDE".

The 9900SL "WIDE RIDE"  uses GOODE's  SL asymmetric features.  There are two skis in each length and flex, each designed for a specific skier, Right-Foot Forward or Left-Foot Forward. The 9900SL "WIDE RIDE" is made with an all new premium grade PURE Carbon Fiber construction.

Skiers trying the WIDE RIDE for the first time immediately feel the additional support at the buoy and also increased speed across course.

Each 9900SL "WIDE RIDE" ski compensates for the flex and torsional differences introduced by different skiing styles and virtually removes the idea of an "Off-Side" turn.

BIG DAWG JEROME BOCUSE ON THE GOODE WIDE RIDE

A few years back, when I reduced my speed from 36 MPH to 34 MPH, my buoy count went slightly up but my skiing was not as enjoyable.  It was always more or less a stop and go with the ski stalling at the buoys as the rope got shorter.  Today, skiing on the 9900SL Wide Ride is an amazing feeling.  My buoy count is up and the pleasure of skiing is back again. This ski is very predictable on both sides, carving the water and turning on a dime without losing any momentum.  With a background as a snow ski racer and watching the ski evolution on the snow, I truly believe that the new 9900SL Wide Ride might be the future???

Bert finally rides the GOODE WILDE RIDE
“Riding the Wide Ride”  November 6, 2008

Intimidating... was my first thought upon contemplating the brand new "Wide ride".  The reason being that it is so radically different from what we all know about skis...   I always avoid making predictions before testing a ski as to stay as objective as possible and usually go at it confidently, but in this case I couldn't help trying to foresee what this thing might do in all phases of the course.  So far, I ran three sets of 12 passes on it, one on Sunday, one on Monday after dark under artificial lights and one yesterday at night.

Sunday

Before riding this baby I was both eager and anxious, what to expect? I really felt like I was going into the unknown...  So I went at it very gently, West Coast Style, started at a slow speed increasing gradually to 34mph. I found a very stable ski with a very smooth edge-to-edge transition. A very easy and even turn at 28 off and even better at 32 off which I ran effortlessly four times in a row. I did try 35 off but my lack of technique at that length did not allow me to run it, and I fell at 4. At that length, I got an interesting taste of the possibilities of the ski. Because I was late and out of position I attempted to give it more angle out of 3, and man... I got way more than I bargained for, you know one of these where as you approach the wake you wonder: Should I let go, am I in for a header?  And then, because you're brainless, you hang on... Incredible angle. As I crossed the wake, I felt like I was in for one of my notorious headers... Surprisingly the large frontal area of the ski did not allow it to sink upon landing after the second wake and it put me right back on top with a somewhat decent form approaching 4. I had sooo much speed at 4 though, that the slack had me skiing flat into the wake going towards five and that's when I experienced another new sensation. Because I crossed the wake with a flat ski the large frontal area that saved me earlier bounced off of the wake with a feeling that I was going to be slapped in the face, (don't take this literally but it did bounce off quite noticeably).

Monday

I decided that I was going to ski a little more aggressively; after all, I'm here to test so I should try to report on as much as possible.  My conclusion on that evening is that I do not want to be aggressive with that ski. It has way more potential than I can handle. Or I need to learn it gradually and cautiously. Several times out of the turn at 32, I gave it extra "hip dip" and could not hang on. Later, going back into a more conservative approach, no problem...  At one wake crossing with way too much speed again, (as I just said I'm willing to test that ski and I'm going to put it into strange configurations) I let go of the rope at the wake and fell on my back very evenly with the ski in front of me and went into a seemingly endless glide, were it another ski, I would have stopped much sooner because of a smaller size but this one kept on going and going and going to where if it hadn't been for my digging into the water with both arms I would have eaten grass... For those who know Okeeheelee, this was on the Forest Hill Lake, which is quite narrow at three and four.

Tuesday

I went back into a calmer mode to enjoy the smooth ride of a very comfortable and pleasurable ski.  My conclusion until further notice is that for a guy like me who hardly ever lets go of the rope (as I like to say "rope in hand, hope at hand") this ski is to be approached with caution, if you are a smooth technician you will love it. Still I would love to see an excellent and somewhat aggressive skier that can hang on to what I couldn't on that ski. Would I want it for myself? Still undecided, stay tuned...  In any case, Goode needs to be congratulated and encouraged on manufacturing such interesting ideas that will serve our thirst for buoys...

Thank you Steve, thank you Dave Goode.

MORE WIDE RIDE HERE

My 64" GOODE WIDE RIDE has arrived.  I've lined up BIG DAWG REMI REBILLARD, 35 off skier BERT JUBERT and JON KOCH from Minnesota as well as myself.  We range from 145 to 195 pounds and ski from 22 thru 39 off.  We're all Right Foot Forward.  We're going to take this little monster out of the box and not touch the fin and wing.  Each of us will put our own bindings on it and ride it.

10/24/2008  Jon was the first on the ski.  He weighs in at 195.  I took the ski out of the box, put his bindings on in the same place as his 66.75", checked the fin and wing to make sure they were tight and off we went.  Jon's reaction; " I'll buy this ski!"

I skied it with my bindings in the pouring rain after taking 3.5 weeks off so I really can't tell anything yet.  Jon and I will be riding it again this afternoon so stay tuned!

10/25/2008

Schnitz,

After riding the new 9900 Wide Ride (WR), I have to say I've never been so happy with a ski coming right out of the box. I would recommend that any level of skier try the 9900 WR after skiing on it, watching, and pulling you through the course.  I've been with and watched you test several skis in the last 9 months.  This is the first ski that you looked as good on as your old reliable 9400. I personally think that once you start skiing on a regular schedule again and with a little more tweaking on the fin, you will finally have a ski that you like as much as your old reliable or even more so. I believe the 9900 WR is the ski that very well could permanently shelf your 9400 for good.
Here's a list of things that I noticed about the 9900 WR from the beginning. Coming out of the water, the ski does not fill your shorts with water.  You plane out much faster with a lot less effort. When riding the ski flat, it doesn't hunt for a edge.(very stable) The 9900 WR is faster cross course (ball to ball) than my trusty 9700 and takes far less effort. The 9900 WR carries more speed through the turn and feels more stable. I have never ridden a ski that is so forgiving to mistakes.  Bad pull out, late gate, bad 1 ball or in too deep some place else down course, this ski lets you get away with it and you can get your self back on track. The 9900 WR finish has a matte finish, which I think, will look and hold up better over time than the old high gloss finish. I also like it just because it's something different.
I guess what I'm saying here is whether you are a novice or a pro, I believe that any skier can up their personal best on the 9900 WR ski.
And that's my opinion of the new 9900 WR from Dave Goode. I'm really glad that he took the time (and money) to go out on a limb and develop a new concept in a high-end tournament ski and price it $2,000.00 less than a WARP.   Change is Goode!!!!

Jon Koch

By Schnitz below,

I rode the Wide Ride again today.  It's incredibly stable and easy to get up on.  My shorts don't fill up with water.  My one hand starts are really easy.  In the course, this baby likes to be turned West Coast Style, that is, moving the hip to the inside rather than pushing the tail around with the back foot or climbing on the front.  So far, it's way too aggressive at the completion of the off-side turn due to it's extreme width up in the fore body.  I took out 3.5 thousandths tip from the already short, deep and forward fin dimensions from the factory to try and get rid of some of this aggressiveness.  I'll ride it again on Sunday and write an update.  One thing that I've learned, wide fore bodies require far less tip than a narrow fore body.  This may lead to different fin shapes in the near future to really get the performance we're all looking for.  Stay tuned!

Sunday,  10/26/2008

Jon and I both rode the Wide Ride again today in rough, windy conditions.  We were both physically exhausted.  Jon skied as well as he is capable.  I was too sleep deprived, sore and tired to be able to evaluate anything so I will with hold comment until I'm rested.

Monday, 10/27/2008

Jon and I both rode the Wide Ride again today in really nice conditions.  We are both excited to get on this ski and see what it can really do.  I am totally comfortable on this ski.  Jon is now selling his two - 66.75" 9700's and buying one of these if not this one.  If interested, contact Jon at 1-612-670-9008 or e-mail jon@jonkoch.com

Tuesday, 10/28/2008

We're a bunch of pansies down here in South Florida.  The thermometer hit 64 degrees yesterday.  If it's under 70, fuggetaboudit!   We should ski again Thursday or Friday.  Jon's back on the road so unless Remi and/or Bert the terrible show up, it'll be just me ridin the ski.

Wednesday, 10/29/2008

Record lows this morning!  It's in the 40's.  I skied in the late afternoon with the temp around 70.  This ski is 100% comfortable to ride and really easy to get up on.  I turns equally well on both sides and accelerates as well as anything I've ridden.  I still need to try it with my SlotFin/Mini Wing as this is what I'm accustomed to.

Thursday, 10/30/2008

I did not ski today!

Friday, Oct 31, 2008

No skiing today.   I guess some of you want to know about the ease of edge change, how well it accelerates, how well it turns and a myriad of other things.  All that needs to be said about this ski is that it's ultra comfortable, as aggressive as I want it to be, will turn when, where and how I want it to turn, will get whatever angle I choose and won't fill my shorts.  The quality is better than any Goode I've ever seen.  I would like to see a better fin clamp on this ski as well as wings that have the screws on the opposite side.  Aside from these distractions, this is one heck of a great ski!

Here is how the fin came from the factory on this 64" RFF WIDE RIDE;

Length    6.688  (6.8195 with the tips)
Depth      2.493
DFT            .759
Wangle       7.5 Degrees

I'm running my front binding at 28 3/4" from the tail which is 5/16" forward of where I ride my normal 64" 9400 Goode.

Bert finally rode the WIDE RIDE on Sunday, November 2nd.  He was all smiles up through 32 off in flat water.  In the chop, Bert was having some problems.  Bert has the ski and will be doing multiple sets on it and will be writing in as soon as he gets some free time.

If anyone out there has tried a WIDE RIDE, please send me your comments!

 GOODE’S STANDARD LIMITED WARRANTY

GOODE Skis carry a limited warranty for one year from the date of purchase. This limited warranty is void unless registered with GOODE. GOODE will replace (at GOODE's option) the ski if found to be defective as to workmanship or material. This warranty DOES NOT extend to damage resulting from misuse, neglect or abuse, normal wear and tear, accident or exterior appearance or color, breakage including handle dings, buoy hits, etc. (except breakage resulting from manufacturing defects), improper dealer service, ski mounted with FOGMANN[ii].
bindings or improper mounting of bindings.

This limited warranty extends only to the original consumer who purchased a new ski from GOODE.

In no event shall GOODE be liable for incidental or consequential damages. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation exclusions may not apply. All implied warranties or merchantability or otherwise are limited in duration to one year following the date of purchase.

If a defect arises in the ski within the limited warranty period, the user should promptly contact GOODE to receive a Return Authorization # (RA#). GOODE will not be responsible for any costs, such as, but not limited to, removing bindings, remounting bindings, handling, shipping or insurance. If a ski is replaced, the replacement product is covered only for the remainder of the original limited warranty period dating from the purchase of the original ski.

Furthermore, if a ski that needs to be replaced is a discontinued model, it will be replaced with a ski of comparative performance. Please allow four weeks for completion of repairs or of replacement and return of the product.

This limited warranty gives the owner specific legal rights and possibly other rights which vary from state to state.

[1] Skis mounted with FOGMANN brand bindings are not covered under our warranty. GOODE feels that these bindings are dangerous, from a skier's safety standpoint, because they do not release. And since the FOGMANN brand bindings do not release, excess force is placed on the ski during a fall.

GOODE started from the ground up to design a water ski that is lighter and stronger, providing better flex control and hydrodynamics than anything on the market today.

GOODE
is the first and only company to totally integrate Aerospace Carbon Fiber Composite technology into water skis.

The pure Carbon Fiber construction makes GOODE
Skis the industry's lightest while still having the highest flex/torsion ratios.

Weighing less than 3 lbs., GOODE
Skis have twice the physical properties of conventional water skis.

GOODE
Skis will not breakdown or change flex over their lifetime.

GOODE's  Two-Week Demo Program for 9800 model Water Skis and PowerShellTM Boots

We invite you to try before you buy!

Our demo program is for water skiers who want to try the
GOODE Carbon Fiber water skis and/or the GOODE PowerShellTM Boot System. Unlike other manufacturers, GOODE builds new skis for you to try. We don’t just send "Demo Skis". Our innovative products and Demo program must be working, because very few skis are ever returned. Here is how GOODE’s two-week demo offer works:

  1. If you would like to try either a GOODE water ski or PowerShell boot order online or call Toll Free (from USA and Canada) 1-800-480-0090 weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST
  2. If you order by telephone, a customer service representative will take your "Skier Profile". If you’re interested in trying a ski - the model, length and flex will be recommended for you. Skiers interested in the PowerShell Hard Shell Binding are sized and given an overview of the systems operation. The Demo Fee for each item is listed below. If you keep the products, the demo fee is applied towards your purchase.
  3. Before the order can be filled, you will be asked to give a credit card account number with expiration date. We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. The item(s) requested for evaluation or demonstration will be charged to your credit card along with the appropriate shipping and handling costs (if applicable). The transaction is treated as a purchase.
  4. Your order is processed, a new ski and/or PowerShell is made for you and shipped to you.
  5. From the time you receive your order, you will have two (2) weeks to evaluate the product(s). We encourage you to contact GOODE with any questions or concerns during your Demo Period.
  6. If you are not satisfied with the performance of the ski and /or PowerShell System we ask you to call GOODE'S Customer Service Department before returning the product. Many times their tech support staff can assist and rectify customer concerns. If it is necessary to return the product, GOODE's Customer Service Department will provide you with a Return Authorization Number (RA#). To ensure your proper credit; all products must be returned with a RA#.
  7. If you are satisfied with the product(s), keep it. It’s that simple. Your card was charged for the total amount including shipping/handling at the time the order was processed.
  8. If you return product(s) with a RA#, you will receive a credit to your charge card for the amount of the product(s), minus the "DEMO FEE" for each product and the shipping/handling fee.
  9. You are responsible to treat the product(s) as if they were your own during the Demo Period. Any loss, damage or excessive wear will be charged additionally.
