Four U.S. Athletes Win Masters' Titles
Four U.S. athletes won titles Sunday as the 48th Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament concluded on Robin Lake at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga. The Masters was being held in conjunction with the 15th Junior Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament where five U.S. athletes won titles this weekend.
In his 12th appearance at the Masters, defending champion Freddy Krueger clinched his third consecutive Men’s jumping title and sixth Masters’ title at the event. He soared 231 feet to win the title. Canada’s Jaret Llewellyn finished second with a 229-foot leap and Great Britain’s Jason Seels placed third with a 221-foot jump.
In Men’s slalom, Jamie Beauchesne won his second Masters’ title after rounding 5 buoys at 39-1/2 off. Wade Cox was not far behind with 3 at 39-1/2 and Chris Rossi placed third with 2-1/2 at 39-1/2 off.
In Men’s tricks, France’s Nicolas LeForestier won the title after setting a course record with 12,050 points. LeForestier was followed by Llewellyn with 11,040 points and Argentina’s Javier Julio with 8,630 points.
In Men’s wakeboarding, Phillip Soven clinched the title with 83 points, while Canada’s Rusty Malinoski finished second with 71 points and Trevor Hansen came in third with 62 points.
In Women’s wakeboarding, Emily Copeland-Durham captured the title with 66 points. Defending champion Dallas Friday finished second with 61 points in her first major tournament after she suffered multiple injuries to her left leg at a Wakeboard World Cup stop in Singapore last October. Australia’s Amber Wing finished third with 51 points.
In Women’s slalom, Great Britain’s Sarah Green clinched the title after rounding 4-1/2 buoys at 35 off. Regina Jaquess was close behind with 4 at 35 off and Michelle Simpson finished third with 3-1/2 at 35 off.
In Women’s tricks, Australia’s Michale Briant won the title with 7,780 points, France’s Clementine Lucine finished second with 7,500 points and Greece’s Angeliki Andriopoulou placed third with 7,360 points.
In Women’s jumping, Belarus’ Natalia Berdnikova won the title with a 163-foot leap, Andriopoulou finished second with a 162-foot leap and Lucine placed third with a 160-foot leap.
At the Junior Masters, Caroline Hensley won her first Junior Women’s overall title with 2,937.0 points after earning the title in Junior Women’s slalom rounding 4 buoys at 35 off. She won the slalom title after a runoff with Danielle Shipe. Hensley also came in second in tricks with 5,400 points behind France’s Iris Cambray, who scored 6,520 points to win the title. In Junior Women’s jumping, Canada’s Erin Mielzynski won the title with a 133-foot leap. Shipe finished second with a 132-foot leap.
In Junior Men, Storm Selsor won the overall title with 2,477.6 points after placing second in tricks with 7,810 points. Czech Republic’s Zdenek Kolman won the tricks title with 8,330 points. Brooks Wilson won the slalom title with 2 at 38 off after two runoffs with France’s Thibaut Dailland. Zack Worden won the title in jumping after soaring 174 feet.
In Junior Men wakeboard, Jimmy LaRiche clinched his second consecutive title after scoring 71.1 points. Robert Soven finished second with 49.4 points and Jacob Valdez rounded out the top three placements. In Junior Women wakeboard, France’s Estelle Tuaz won the title with 46.7 points. Corrie Dyer finished second with 36.7 points and Victoria Ivy Kulp placed third.
